Patent Engineer
Motorola seeks highly motivated and energetic engineers to join its Patent Ops Team.
Broad engineering background with coursework in two or more of the following disciplines: digital signal processing, analogue electronics, digital electronics, RF circuit design, computer engineering, networking.
Able to comprehend complex concepts, employ logical thinking and thrive in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Ability to consistently maintain focus and drive.
Capable of working on own initiative as well as in a team environment.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Degree in Electronics and Communication, Electrical and Electronics Engineering or Computer Science & Engineering/Electronics
A Patent Engineer will be required to draft and prosecute patent applications for Motorola. Patent applications are documents detailing inventions (ideas). The term "patent" refers to a legal right granted to anyone who invents or discovers any new and useful process, machine, article of manufacture, or composition of matter, or any new and useful improvement.
The Patent Engineer will be required to interact with the inventors at Motorola to capture and claim their idea into a legal document called a "Patent Application."
The patent application consists of a complete description of the invention and the Patent Engineer will be required to draft the patent application. Moreover, the Patent Engineer will be required to prosecute patent application for the grant of a patent. Prosecution requires interaction with the patent office by replying (in a written document) to the patent office actions to protect Motorola inventions against the cited arts that the patent office considers similar to the Motorola invention.
If you are interested, you need to do a lot of legal and technical writing, work with inventors in different parts of the world, work with lawyers, be very timely in you work product and be a very good learner.
This job requires you to have excellent English communication skills (spoken and written), good grammar and sentence construction, strong electronics, digital and networking knowledge.
